Resume Writing Tips and Job Objective Importance

In many different career fields, a good resume is an important tool when it comes to getting a job. Learning about resume writing tips and job objective importance before sitting down to write your resume can make the difference between a resume that gets noticed and a resume that gets tossed in the trash. Employers decide whether or not to interview you solely based on your resume. After all, they've likely never met you before, so your resume is all they have to go on. Many employers are unable to interview every job applicant, so the resume serves as a way to weed out undesirables and choose the best candidates for consideration.

The first thing you should know about writing a resume is how to format it. One inch margins are recommended for the top and sides of the page. Use resume paper rather than regular printer paper. Resume paper is durable, thick and often comes in colors like muted, pale gray or ivory which is easy on an employer's eyes and stands out against white paper. Use black ink only. You should never use graphics or colored inks on your resume. A readable, conservative font like Verdana or Times New Roman is highly recommended. You can make use of italics and bold, but use them sparingly.

The most common type of resume is one that lists your education and experience in chronological order. A chronological resume might also contain an objective at the top. Your job objective is a brief but powerful paragraph which describes why you are an ideal candidate for the job you are applying for and how you intend to use your skills. A job objective lets the employer know right away why you want the job and what you can contribute.

Resume writing tips and job objective writing tips can be found on the Internet. Or, you can check out some of the many books available on the subject. Always write a few drafts of your resume and proofread it carefully before ever submitting to a potential employer. If your resume has spelling or grammatical errors, it may hurt your chances of getting the job you want. Once you have the perfect resume, you can have it copied on high quality resume paper so that you'll have plenty of copies. Always be sure to save a copy on your hard drive and/or a backup disk also.
